Tibetologists of the day will confirm, that the period between the death of a high lama of a monastic order and the reincarnation of his successor may be marked by rivalries, struggles, intrigues and a lot of confusion. This has been historically characteristic of the Taala'i Lama chain of incarnations from the 4th onwards, most of whom were killed, as shown in the documentary titled ‘The Dalai Lamas’, released from Dharamsala, HP prepared by Prof Robert Thurman and others! Until the early twentieth century, the Gyalwang Karmapa incarnations had been free of such controversy! On the two occasions that these have occurred, they have each been the result of undue interference by the Taala'i Lamas. Karmapa khyen no!
The 13th Taala'i Lama was directly responsible for the problems associated with the recognition of the XVIth; the 14th is currently associated with the XVIIth. The Karmapa Conundrum is certainly the darkest chapter in the history of the Tibetan diaspora! This writer has been, over the last seven years assiduously drawing the attention of the world to the scams being perpetrated by certain Tibetans in the name of Buddhism, with specific reference to the Karmapa Affair! Karmapa khyen no!
Considering the prevailing political scenario, the strained relations between India and China and the ethno-national tensions which exist within the Tibetan polity, the Karmapa Conundrum has become a 'chronicle of rogues in robes' that highlights the seamy aspects of some of the high-ranking Tibetan Buddhist lamas in their struggle to instal their choice — Trinley Thaye Dorje or Ugyen Trinley Dorji — as the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa. This doesn’t stop here as over three hundred incarnate trulkus have been recognised by Tai Situ in Tibet. They are being groomed under the Chinese govt to exert their influence throughout the world under the banner of Tibetan Buddhism! Karmapa khyen no!
The struggle has assumed the shape of a game of chess, with India, a convenient doormat, having emerged as the chessboard on which the murky moves and counter-moves of Tibetan nazism actively supported by the west, are being played out much to the detriment of India. The avowed intent is to weaken India from within! This is in spite of the fact that the Taala'i Lama and his 100,000 compatriots are beholden to India for having granted them refuge when they fled their homeland 1959 onwards. India continues to absorb the thousands of Tibetans who continue to flee each year from Tibet! Karmapa khyen no!
The Govt of India, having extended its virtually unconditional hospitality to the Taala’i Lama, to the extent of treating him the de facto Head of State, permitting him to establish and run a parallel Govt of Tibet in exile et al, ultra vires of the Constitution of India, finds itself in a no-win situation. The Taala’i Lama is currently holding a jamboree in Dehra Doon, the capital of Uttaranchal. He is there ostensibly for the consecration and inauguration of the world’s highest stupa on the occasion of the Feast of the Descent of the Buddha from the Heavens Oct 28. Evidently the Indian media has matured in its understanding of what the Taala’i Lama stands for and is now curtailing its coverage of his pomp and show. It is hoped that similarly good sense will prevail and the Kalachakra Initiation slated for Jan 2003 in Bodh Gaya will be given minimal publicity. Karmapa khyen no!
Lakshmi Prasad Pant of Dainik Jagaran, a Hindi daily from north India, reported from Dehra Doon 26-8-2002, that the Ministry of External Affairs is at a loss to know what the Taala’i Lama has in his mind. Moreover it specifies that he has a think tank of bureaucrats in his purported Depts of External and Home Affairs, which decides on his policies! It is worth mentioning that for decades he had promoted the cause of Tibetan freedom. Chinese suzerainty is now a forgone conclusion! Currently he is willing to engage the Chinese in a constructive dialogue on autonomy for the Tibetan minorities within the framework of the Chinese Constitution having abandoned the call for Free Tibet. Karmapa khyen no!
This is documented in a video documentary on Tibet and the Taala’i Lama broadcast on the Discovery channel one mid-Oct evening. Many abroad, particularly in the US, actively engaged in the movement for a Free Tibet are bound to be extremely disappointed at this turn of events. The question automatically arises as to where has all the money collected gone! Karmapa khyen no!
The Taala’i Lama has collected millions and millions of dollars from abroad in support of the Tibetan freedom struggle. Intelligent donors will do well to find out the manner in which such donations have been utilised until now! The intriguing part of all this is that every single movement in India is, simply stated, a money spinner -- a gimmick for collecting and making money. Neither is politics in Asia understood or practised in the same way as in the west! Here ideology and principles are substituted by sheer opportunism! Those interested are urged to watch broadcasts of the proceedings of the Indian Parliament on TV to gain insights into Asia! Is the Prince of Peace accountable? Karmapa khyen no!
The least one might expect is that the Taala'i Lama would spearhead a process of gratitude towards India and its peoples, particularly its Buddhist populace, and further the well being of Indians in general and Buddhists in particular. This would be fully in accord with Buddhist teachings which state ‘Be grateful to everyone!’ On the contrary, since the Dharma is hardly the consideration when it comes to politics, what has become the norm is a shameless attempt of India-bashing under the guise of being a peacenik. He has a different face to show different people! Is it any wonder then that westerners are naively charmed into believing in him? The inquisitive person may wonder why Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the elderly statesman from Singapore, has not said one word concerning this world figure! The Taala'i Lama has emerged as the greatest threat to the national security of India, substantiating the warning issued by Defence Minister Sardar Patel to Jawaharlal Nehru, Prime Minister of India, as far back as in 1950 concerning the loyalty of the peoples of mongolian origin in India towards this country. Tibetans commonly refer to Indians of Ladakh, Kinnaur, Sikkim and so on, as being from amongst them, distinguishing them from plains Indians. What emerges is an unabashed attempt of the Dalai Lama and his followers to establish the Holy Tibetan Buddhist Empire throughout the world upon which the sun never sets, in its full blown glory, governed by trulkus or incarnated lamas of dubious distinction, owing allegiance to the Communist Chinese Govt! This is not only to the detriment of India but also the whole world!

II
The Buddha Cries! written by Anil Maheshwari, published by UBS Publishers’ Distributors, New Delhi in 2001, is an update on the Karmapa Imbroglio that has characteristically, all the 'spice' of clashes, machinations and mud slinging that have rocked the Buddhist world to which the top echelons of Tibetan religious institutions profess to belong. In its better form it reads no better than a thriller upon which Agatha Christie could hardly improve; in its worst, it brings into focus the medieval fanaglings of the Borgias Popes. And there is hardly any question as to who Pope Innocent might be.

It is amazing that in spite of the fact that the Taala'i Lama and his cohorts, Tai Situpa, Gyaltshab all the way to Bokar Rinpoche in the Karma Kagyu together with various other so-called 'enlightened' monks, have broken the various precepts of the Vinaya, Mahayana and the Vajrayana as enunciated by the Buddha, by creating a schism within the Buddhist Sangha, they yet continue to present themselves as Buddhist monks, Bodhisatvas and Vajra Masters. Clearly these misguided individuals have successfully set themselves apart as a law unto themselves, governed not by the Buddha’s Dispensation. They are motivated merely to further the interests of Chinese hegemony and their own petty and personal ambitions. In this they may be accurately compared to Himmler, Goering, Goebbals and others! What has also emerged is that all those Lamas who have strong links with their monasteries in Tibet are those that are siding with the Chinese appointed Karmapa for obvious reasons. The vacillation of Gharwang Rinpoche, currently of Indian Sikkimese origin, derives from the fact that he seeks to retain his links with his large chain of Zurmang monasteries in Tibet. Shamar Rinpoche’s monasteries having been confiscated and forcibly converted to the Gelugpa tradition from its original Karma Kagyu, by a decree of the Govt of Tibet in 1792 CE, has nothing to worry himself about back in Tibet. Hence he is able to function as a free agent who may successfully espouse the cause of truth wherever that may lie! Karmapa khyen no!
The great Kagyu sage Milarepa had once commented that in order to truly practise the Dharma one must leave one’s homeland as it is the cause of multiple involvement and sufferings! It is clear that the Karma Kagyu hierarchy under the leadership of Tai Situ has forgotten this admonition!

Isn’t it amazing, the skill with which they are able to hide behind a facade of bon homie which they exude when interacting with the west in particular? Seeing some of their monks and followers, one is left wondering as to whether they are being trained in the study and praxis of the Dharma, or whether they are emerging as 'dob-dobs' or monk mafia. This last is in accordance with the time honoured tradition of the Naga sadhus of Adi Shankarachrya who spared no effort to destroy Buddhism in the Indian sub-continent circa 6th century CE! And of course the infamous dob-dobs of the Gelugpa monasteries of Ganden, Sera and Drepung need no introduction to those familiar with Tibetan history. The inquisitive reader is referred to Seven Years in Tibet by Heinrich Harrer and The Water Bird & Other Years written by K. Dhondrup mentioned below, for wonderful insights into the modus operandi of these corridors of unabashed power in the Tibetan polity. Karmapa khyen no!

Is it not the more amazing that members of various other nationalities, particularly westerners, who each have their own language, culture, civilisation and history, have come to accept the viewpoint of these supposed Tibetan Monks who have no qualms to thrust upon them their own Tibetan language, culture, civilisation and history? Westerners willingly accept it all in the name of Tibetan Buddhism and the supposedly overawing charisma of the Taala’i Lama who is concurrently projected as the very incarnation of the Buddha, hence infallible! This in itself is an indication of the decadence of the Tibetan polity which seeks to hide behind the personality of a single person! Karmapa khyen no!
These very same westerners, a large number of whom are from Roman Catholic backgrounds, amazingly refuse to accept the infallibility of the Pope, the papacy being perceived as corrupt! Westerners clearly have more data on the Vatican than they do on Dharamsala, hence they are able to draw their own assessments concerning the former even as they err seriously in their evaluation of the Taala’i Lama and his patently illegal Govt of Tibet in exile! Karmapa khyen no!
For the west in particular, two books, The Buddha Cries and The Water Bird & Other Years, are of particular relevance. The latter s written by K. Dhondrup, published 1986 and is available from Dolkar Herbal medicines, D-10 Kalkaji, New Delhi 110019. They both highlight those socio-political parameters the west peoples have left behind as past history, outgrowing feudal patterns, concerns and loyalties into a modern consciousness. The modern and liberal western consciousness seeks to analyse before it accepts and respects only those which it considers worthy of respect! Karmapa khyen no!
The Tibetan psyche as evidenced from The Buddha Cries and The Water Birds and Other Years, clearly indicates that Tibetans yet need to go through a historical process for a change of attitude to take place. Some diehards are hopeful that such an evolution will eventually take place even though various social parameters amongst the Tibetan community in India merely indicate a continuing degradation of tradition and deterioration of human values! Karmapa khyen no!
The difference between events in pre 1959 Tibet and now is that earlier these convulsions had been confined within a highly insular, xenophobic Tibetan context. Currently the Taala’i Lama has succeeded in engaging the entire world in his personal and petty power struggles! Is it any wonder that he harbours hallucinations concerning his multiple roles? Karmapa khyen no!
The Vidyadhara Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, also mentioned in The Buddha Cries, assiduously sought to ensure that his disciples remained as far away from involvement with Tibetanisms as possible. Both these books are living proof of the validity of his perspective. It is unfortunate that those now leading the Vajradhatu Sangha and its official organ The Shambhala Sun, a bimonthly Buddhist magazine published from the USA, do not seem to be clear on this one and crucial issue! Similarly Tricycle, an American Buddhist quarterly, assiduously employs the Nelson’s eye when it comes to the Taala’i Lama! There are yet others such as Mandala which attempt to reflect the voice of Buddhists in the world which live under similar delusions! The reasons for this are many and most certainly include political and economic pressures. Some simply do not want to know! Karmapa khyen no!
The halo around the Dalai Lama is essentially a creation of western powers, and that too only after the demise of the XVIth Gyalwang Karmapa whose personality had clearly eclipsed the former’s! The XVIth had not needed to be propped up by others -- he was magnificent in his own self and respected throughout the world as an individual! The Taala’i Lama’s rise to eminence, the halo of incontrovertible holiness which supposedly exudes from him, has been propagated only after the demise of the Soviet Union and its powerful KGB! His links with the CIA are legendary and incontrovertible. The Los Angeles Times has published released secret reports in 1999 concerning their ongoing interaction! He is moreover empowered by the moral, religious and financial support he receives from western disciples. With this source of funding cut off, he will automatically cease to be a nuisance for India. Karmapa khyen no!
It needs to be stressed however, that on a personal level, many Tibetans are good people! Of this there can be no doubt! Many Lamas are eminently committed to the Buddha’s Dispensation and in their own ways, with all the resources at their disposal, are inculcating an awareness of basic sanity throughout the world! To all such, this writer offers his unconditional reverence, wishing them complete success in their endeavours and that more and more such manifest similar activity! Karmapa khyen no!
A word of caution however is necessary concerning ‘wolves disguised in sheeps’ clothings’. Many Lamas who are politically active, do project an image that they are merely teaching the Dharma to people from abroad. Such people possess multiple passports from different countries, under various names, enabling them to move about freely abroad! This is a dangerous precedent which highlights the lack of respect and violation of civilised laws. The aspirant therefore, needs to analyse critically as to whether such people are creating their own lobby in this process. Moreover, the manner in which the offerings received are being utilised, for the funding their political activities back in Tibet or in India, must necessary come under scrutiny! After all it is the hard earned money of Buddhist disciples, given to them out of devotion and respect! Karmapa khyen no!
The stalled Maitreya Project in Bodh Gaya, of the Taala’i Lama and Lama Zopa of the Foundation for the Preservation of Mahayana Teachings, has a plethora of different aspects to it. Firstly Lama Zopa himself is a Nyingma Lama turned into a Gelugpa one! This is a rare and peculiar instance in itself! More significantly it includes those of close contacts with insurgent groups in Bihar, India such as the Maoist Communist Centre and the Peoples’ War Group. The danger clearly is that the centre would evolve as yet another epicentre of terror; insurgents becoming the natural and direct beneficiaries of the largesse of students from abroad! It is also known that some of the organisations funding this mega-project are known to possess a dubious political track record! Trangu Rinpoche’s multi-million dollar Vajra Vidya Mandir in Saranath, Varansai, India, is in itself a bold political statement! This has received funding from the Vajradhatu Sangha as well which respects him as a role model! And this is in spite of the warnings of the Vidyadhara! Incidentally Trangu, Tenga, Bokar Rinpoches amongst many others, all possess Nepalese passports obtained under aliases through the falsification of information! By no stretch of imagination are these Tibetan refugees indigenous Nepalese! Karmapa khyen no!
IV
The Buddha Cries tells not the story of an ordinary person, but of those highly ambitious and motivated Tibetans who have taken upon themselves the role of being the Guardians of the Faith, the Osama bin Ladens and Md Omar of Buddhism; those who attempt to write and rewrite the history of their peoples and now of the world! Karmapa knyen no!
King Langdarma of the ninth century in Tibet, who assiduously sought to uproot the Dharma during his three year reign, is a prime example of such misdirected energies. His famous last words had been ‘Would that I had been killed three years earlier so that I would not have committed such heinous crimes!’ Karmapa khyen no!
Such, in their ardour to fulfill their mission, think little of involving and destroying the ordinary person, be it eastern or western or one’s own spiritual sibling, Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche of Rumtek and announcing rewards of Rs. one lakh each for the assassination of non-Gelugpa spiritual luminaries such as the XVIth Gyalwang Karmapa! The assassin of Gungthang Tsultrim, amongst the most influential anti-Dharamsala personalities, was reportedly paid Rs. three lakhs for the job executed summer 1978. Their skills in sorcery are equally infamous! Karmapa khyen no!
The Taala’i Lama is highly intolerant of dissent neither does he believe in the First Amendment -- the freedom of speech; or the individual’s right to personal beliefs! This is evident from the violent manner in which Dharma Chakra Centre in Rumtek, Sikkim was captured by his agents Tai Situ and Gyaltshab in 1993. The Karmpa’s monks were physically assaulted and thrown out of the monastery with all their belongings confiscated. The ugly episode took place with the active participation of the Govt of Sikkim which has recently found its saviour in the Taala’i Lama. Those events form the subject matter of yet another treatise. This was followed by an attack on the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute in New Delhi March 18, 1995 by the Taala’i Lama through his agents. Karmapa khyen no!
Dec 12, 1998 this writer together with two other unarmed Indians holding a peaceful demonstration in front of the High Court in Patna, Bihar, were beaten up by a group of Tibetans under the Taala’i Lama’s direct orders. He was then in Patna for the inauguration of a medical facility. This writer had been distributing a pamphlet titled ‘A Conspiracy is being Hatched to Dismember Sikkim from India’ in Hindi. This article, written by Jaishankar Gupta, had first appeared Aug 24, 98 in the New Delhi edition of Hindustan, a Hindi daily. Here one sees a group of Tibetan refugees attacking indigenous people of Bihar and that too on their home turf! This writer was subsequently detained at Kotwali Police Station in Patna whilst the Tibetan representative of the Taala’i Lama was set free. To add insult to injury, this writer was warned by Tibetans to stay clear of Tibetan politics! Karmapa khyen no!
Jaishankar Gupta was admonished a year ago by the owner of the Hindustan Times group not to write against the Taala’i Lama! His article, in which he had exposed the Taala’i Lama’s multi-million dollar project to build a palatial complex near Chandigarh in northern India, had appeared a year ago. He had also found out that the Taala’i Lama had requested the Govt of India to provide him with a bullet proof Mercedes limo which even the President of India does not have. Karmapa khyen no!
Clearly the Taala’i Lama appointed himself the arbiter of India’s destiny! Who crowned him king of India? Surely it is the unqualified adulation the Taala’i Lama receives from his western devotees that propels him into acting as if he is a law unto himself! Cut off this support and the Taala’i Lama will revert to being that which he is -- a Tibetan refugee in exile in India! It was the CIA who had spared him the ignominy of going out on the streets and begging as his fellow countrymen had done for many years since 1959! In spite of this, he continues shamelessly to seek donations to fund a lavish lifestyle for himself and his purported govt, fund the separatist movement in Sikkim, the BODO & ULFA insurgency in Bhutan and India and so on! There is no way to fathom what he doesn’t do! Karmapa khyen no!
Most people merely work on assumptions -- the Taala’i Lama has been thrown out of his country Tibet by the Communist Chinese, is a highly regarded Buddhist teacher, has won the Nobel Peace Prize, has charisma, wonderful vibes, writes and speaks eruditely concerning Buddhism, is revered universally and so on -- hence he must be good! QED! Richard II famous statement, “Will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest?” echoes through time across continents to find its pertinence here! Karmapa khyen!
May 25, 02 this writer together with his 8 yr old son, both in robes, had visited Dharma Chakra Centre, Rumtek on the occasion of Saga Dawa, to peacefully pay their respects to HH the XVIth Gyalwang Karmapa! They were hassled by an aggressive group of residents of the monastery and its precincts intent on creating trouble. They wanted this writer to acknowledge the Taala’i Lama as his supreme leader and master as a token of which he was being forced to eat a brown pill containing the faeces and urine of the Taala’i Lama! His devotees are welcome to feast on the excreta of the Taala’i Lama if they so desire! But then are these universally shared values? Surely such acts are hardly symptomatic of a peacenik and his followers? Karmapa khyen no!
It is no hidden secret that the Indian administration in Dharmasala, HP is overly beholden to the Taala’i Lama due to the largesse he showers upon its officers. Characteristically mid 1999 the Taala’i Lama had the Superintendent of Police of Dharmasala-MacLeodganj write to his counterpart in Munger informing him that this writer was engaged in a conspiracy to liquidate the Taala’i Lama. He was accused of being associated with disaffected Tibetans, Nepalese and so on, was amassing weapons illegally and preparations were under way for the creation of a ‘human bomb’. Investigations by the police in Munger merely revealed that this writer, with an impeccable antecedents and police record, was merely a patriotic Indian attempting to highlight the calumny which is the Taala’i Lama and protect his country from the latter’s evil and confused politics! Karmapa khyen no!
Acutely aware of his own vulnerability and that of his family, this writer has been compelled to file Title Suit # 57 of 1997 in the Court of Munsif II, Munger, currently pending, against the Taala’i Lama and others seeking the protection of the court against the infringement of their fundamental right to life! Amazingly the Taala’i Lama claims immunity to legal prosecution in his written statement, thus negating the very means of modern civilisation to exert checks and balances on unbridled authority. He claims he is beyond the purview of the laws of India! If this is so, then surely his moon-eyed followers must want us in India to salute him with ‘Heil Taala’i Lama!’ and let him claim the entire himalayan region in the name of Buddhism, especially the Gelugpas, for China! And is there any doubt then, applying the time tested Dulles Doctrine, that these western followers of his are actually enemies of India. Perhaps they are the covert social extension of the CIA! All this may sound extremely bizarre to the ordinary reader who is bound to be outraged and angry at this writer. But the truth needs to be told repeatedly and passed on from generation to generation. Only thus is it possible to provide checks and balances against the use and abuse of power by those in authority who seek to exert their unbridled influence over others! Isn’t this the lesson of two world wars, the Korean and the Vietnam wars? Karmapa khyen no!
Moreover, it will be a measure of the extent to which the reader, a Buddhist practitioner, is actually applying the Dharma in one’s daily life, should one take the time to reflect on this article dispassionately in wisdom and compassion. This is not intended to be an attack on any particular person, group, tradition or whatever. Rather it is simply an objective attempt, precluding malice, to indicate the various forces active within the comiti of Tibetans. Any impassioned negative response would clearly indicate that the Dharma has not necessarily become integrated within the practitioner! The Taala’i Lama himself will vouch for this! Karmapa khyen no!
One is certainly left distraught and wondering as to whether there is such a thing as 'enlightened politics'. Evidently this concept is merely an idealistic mirage conjured up by the modern liberal humanist not reflected in Tibetan musings! www.snsyeshegawa.blogspot.com Karmapa khyen no!
The message which rings out loud and clear is none other than a repetition of the XVIth Gyalwang Karmapa's endless exhortations that Lamas should restrict themselves to the spiritual world keeping themselves assiduously away from politics! But then, when even his own immediate disciples are unable to restrain themselves, what hope can there be for others! Karmapa khyen no!

The Buddha Cries purposely does not mention the existence of the Indian incarnation of the XVIth Gyalwang Karmapa concerning whom Tai Situ knew about in mid-1982 and Shamarpa and Jamgon Kongtrul late in Sep that same year. By Dec 1982 the entire Tibetan community in Darjeeling was agog with rumours concerning this. Naturally the Taala’i Lama knew about it was well. Anathema to even mention such a possibility, this young person has been relegated to the backwaters of human civilisation by the rabidly racist Tibetan establishment! Wunderbar! In excelsis Taala’I Lama! Karmapa khyen no!
Similarly the Tibetan is loath to have to prostrate before blond haired blue-eyed incarnations as they are from a ‘savage’ race! Is it any wonder then that there exist perhaps five recognised western trulkus as of writing this article whilst none from the Indian plains? They are simply not wanted! Karmapa khyen no!
This is none other than the Nazism of Hitler presented in its more subtle variation! The dictum clearly reads, 'The Gyalwang Karmapa, as also other incarnates, must necessarily be Tibetan!’ As if this is preordained by destiny! Concurrently they must also be guided and directed by the Chinese govt. This is hardly any different from the Hitlerian fantasy of filling the world with Aryan children! Vajradhatu has already come under the Chinese spell by acknowledging Tai Situ’s selection of the Trungpa incarnation. Pertinently the Vidyadhara had repeatedly stated during his lifetime that he would be reborn as a Japanese! Is not then the Tibetan recognition simply a matter of expediency, a ploy which was introduced by the 3rd Taala’i Lama and his sponsor Altan Khan in the 16th century? Karmapa khyen no!
Such is the injustice the Tibetan pontiff, the Omniscient One, the Infallible One, the Supreme Amongst Humans, the August Presence, the One Victorious over All Conflicting Emotions, Nobel Peace Prize winner et al, insists on perpetrating! It is of greater import that his deeds are granted the stamp of unconditional approval by his disciples abroad! Few people are aware that a group of disenchanted Gelugpas have petitioned against him in the Canadian Supreme Court for abuse of their human rights!

The recognition of Ugyen Trinley Dorji, UTD, is merely the culmination of the diktats of the Chinese Govt echoed by the Taala’i Lama and Tai Situpa, that none sits on the Gyalwang Karmapa's throne other than an ethnic Tibetan, authenticity and the Dharma being of no consideration whatsoever. Even the enlightened wishes of the XVIth Gyalwang Karmapa are of no consequence in this entire fracas even though sanction for UTD is claimed from a patently forged Prediction Letter purportedly written by him. The Taala’i Lama in his boundless wisdom has so far repudiated any and all attempts to have this letter examined forensically! The Chinese factor is clearly the most important as UTD was the first 'living Buddha' to be recognised and enthroned by the govt since 1950 and which in a major change of policy has decided to instal these ‘living Buddhas’ as its agents in an attempt to control the now rapidly overwhelmed Tibetan ethnic minority. The close links between Tai Situpa, Goshir Gyaltsab and the Chinese authorities are legendary! It is not commonly known that UTD had been feted by the Mahabodhi Society of India in Calcutta Sep 17, 02. This society too is under the control of staunch Hindus in collaboration with monks from Sri Lanka. Its General Secretary, Dr. Rewatha Thero, is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation for violations of foreign exchange laws. Moreover he is known to posses an extremely colourful lifestyle; one who has forfeited the right to wear robes! Karmapa khyen no!
UTD’s visit there was actually a launching pad for him to enter Rumtek Monastery and claim the throne. This was pre-empted by a court order under section 144 Criminal Procedure Code of India, restraining him from even visiting there! During the course of a title suit instituted by the Karmapa Charitable Trust in Gangtok, Sikkim, it has been found by court officials that various sacred and irreplaceable objets d’art brought over by the XVIth Gyalwang Karmapa are missing -- they’ve been spirited away by Tai Situ & Gyaltsab, in spite of assurances given under oath in the Court of the District Judge, Gangtok, Sikkim. UTD has also quite a penchant for leaving behind a trail of trouble. While he was en route India the Taala’i Lama had his first ever car accident on his way to Sarnath from Bodh Gaya the end of 1999. Suspicions, later proved false, were raised that it was an act of sabotage in which this writer was personally involved! When UTD visited Bodh Gaya Mar 01 he kicked up a controversy concerning shoes. Early Sep 2001 one found local deities of Ladakh in a determined effort to ensure that his visit there was infructuous. Dec 01 he lead the Kagyu Prayer Monlam in Bodh Gaya during the course of which he sat with his back to the Vajrasana and the Bodhi Tree -- the first person ever to do so! The Kalachakra Initiation in Bodh Gaya scheduled for Jan 02 was postponed. UTD was there then! Karmapa khyen no!
Clearly the Rinpoches, meaning Ratna in Sanskrit, or these high lamas, blinded as they are by their narrow parochialism, drunk with ambition, are unable to understand the depth and expanse of the vision of the XVIth Gyalwang Karmapa in his choice to reincarnate as a true Indian, albeit of mixed Indo-Tibetan descent! One can only hope and pray that the XVIIth Gyalwang Karmapa's Dispensation will not view racial descent as being synonymous with spirituality! Karmapa khyen no!
A glaring example of this parochialism is the recent Miss Shangrila Tibet competition recently concluded in Dharamsala. Of the 30 original aspirants reportedly only four did not drop out of the contest on the specious grounds of Tibetan tradition. It is perhaps in accord with these time honoured traditions that Tibetans while away their time, having nothing better to do, gambling, drinking, getting into brawls and being promiscuous. Surely it is acceptable by Tibetan tradition for young Khampas to impregnate pre-menopausal western ladies during casual encounters! The moot question is as to whether Tibetan women as similarly available to westerners! Karmapa khyen no!

The above is in direct contrast with the present Roman Catholic Church which spans continents, cultures and peoples. The Church has evolved into a mature presence, now respecting variations in humanity and above all ensures that its followers live in accordance with the laws of their country. Pope John Paul II has distinguished himself as a person of singular integrity by two simple acts. The first is that, at the turn of the millennium, he went down on bended knees, folded his hands in prayer, seeking God's forgiveness for the Church's acts of commission and omission during its two thousand years of existence!!! This was a direct acceptance of human culpability! When he expressed the gratitude of the Church for the example of Mother Teresa, he showed clearly where the future lies for humanity -- in selfless service! Karmapa khyen no!
Similarly the stand he has taken against sexual abuse and exploitation of their charge by his clergy is highly commendable. The book The Thornbird and the Mexican movie The Crime of Father Camaro directed by Carlos Carrera are certainly indicative of this very human urge which continually bring embarrassment to religious establishments throughout the world! It is well known that children are the most vulnerable in any socio-religious context and it is of little use to even attempt to hide the fact that the Taala'i Lama's monks are sexually active! Homosexuality does exist in his monasteries and sexual abuse of children is rampant! This is also echoed in a review by John Billington, of a book Enabling Tibetans to Catch up with the Twentieth Century published in Tibetan Review April 1998. In fact it is commonly maintained that for one to remain a ‘good’ monk, it is essential that he indulges himself! A distinction however needs to be made between sodomy and the less traumatic and ‘peculiarly Tibetan form’ of external titillation! The former is generally frowned upon with Gelugpa monks being the most avid offenders! Sodomy does not have the sanction of any of the Nine Yanas of the Dharma, contrary to what Jeffrey Hopkins might have the world believe! External stimulation is pardonable only twice according to the Vinaya, the third offence entailing automatic expulsion from the Sangha! It is no hidden secret that Dharamsala, HP is actually deeply infiltrated by Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence, the ISI, and the Sino-Pak axis, not to forget the ubiquitous Taliban-Al Qaeda combine. This poses yet a further threat to the country of his domicile! The Sino-Pak axis was created to monitor and contain the Dalai Lama with the clearly enunciated aim of weakening India internally! In this they found the Dulles doctrine their natural allies! Few know that the Taliban had actually threatened to kill UTD prior to 9/11. It is not clear as to what stopped them from carrying it out! The US in particular has become somewhat sensitive to India only after thr visit of President Clinton 2000 and specifically 9/11/01. It is true that had the west seriously evaluated intelligence inputs from India, the WTC would have still been standing. The Chinese incursions into India of 1962, the 40 day war and the continuing uncertainties on the McMahon Line are also the expressions of Chinese displeasure concerning the continuing presence of the Taala’i Lama in India. The Chinese timed it to coincide with the Cuban Missile Crisis. Five years prior to that the Chinese and Indian Premiers had evolved the Panchasheel thesis of peaceful co-existence in Colombo, Ceylon. During these deliberations the Indian PM had accepted Chinese suzerainty over Tibet. This had resulted in the slogan ‘Hindi-Chini bahi-bhai’. This translates to mean that Indians and Chinese are brothers! Chinese duplicity, which then took India by complete surprise, is hardly even worth mentioning any more! Similarly with the Taala’i Lama, a quick learner! Karmapa khyen no!
India has also fought various wars with Pakistan ably supported both by China and the US. In the name of friendship, Pakistan has also illegally gifted a large chunk of Kashmir to the Chinese through which the Karakoram highway has been constructed. Large tracts of land in Ladakh, Jammu Kashmir, known as Aksai Chin, continue in the illegal occupation of China which seeks to extend its dominion throughout the himalayan regions. This is the sinister warning given by Defence Minister Sardar Patel in the letter mentioned above. A confidential report of the Chief Secretary of Sikkim of May 1997 while echoing this, goes on to elaborate the role of Tai Situ and Gyaltshab, who have emerged as the latest menace to Indian sovereignty, under the tutelage of the Taala’i Lama. The insurgency in the Indian State of Jammu & Kashmir owes much to India’s northern neighbour having little to do with the so-called aspirations of its indigenous people who are Hindus, Buddhists and Muslim -- Shia, Sunni and Sufi! On the contrary this turmoil has begun to eat into the very fabrique of Kashmiriyat; the unique Kashmir culture! Indigenous Buddhists of Ladakh as also the Shia Muslims of Kargil, continue to be simply sidelined in every way by the state govt run predominantly by Sunni Muslims from the Kahmir Valley! Even the sizeable Hindu Kashmiri Pandit population, forced to leave the valley by militants, is deprived of its legitimate right to live at home! Ahmedias and Sufis are considered non-Muslims in any case by Muslim fundamentalists! Karmapa khyen no!
Pakistan ensures obedience by copiously funding leaders of the Hurriyat Conference in Kashmir, eliminating dissent and basically creating a reign of terror there! It’s PR is so well organised that Indians who are legitimately there protecting their own country, are made to appear as invaders! The sad part is that western powers continue to lap it all up! With the large number of Jihadi politicians currently elected to Pakistan’s National Assembly, the future for Kashmir looks even more bleak! In spite of this the west assiduously continues to woe a Pakistan at India’s expense! Karmapa khyen no!
Those familiar with the ground realities in Pakistan’s Azad Kashmir and Indian Kashmir know for themselves that life is far better in Indian Kashmir in each and every way! There is a consensus to the effect that if the Kashmir Valley is ever occupied by the Pakistanis, all its beautiful girls, both Hindus and Muslims will be whisked away to harems and brothels in Pakistan! Young boys will, quite naturally, develop rectal incontinence! Pakistan’s record on human rights is hardly commendable steeped as it is in a male chauvinistic feudal past, totally out of synch with the modern world! Karmapa khyen no!
Evidence has now surfaced concerning the barter of missile technology with nuclear technology between North Korea and Pakistan since 1994! All such violations of international norms by Pakistan keeps on happening under the watchful eyes of Uncle Sam who never tires of supporting it and supplying it with weapons which are invariably used against India! The US also seems unwilling to admit that Al Qaeda operatives have now shifted their focus to liberating Kashmir! The question is, liberate Kashmir from who or what? Clearly the west possesses double standards when it comes to dealing with India as has been stated recently by the Indian PM during his visit to the UK! Stated simply, the USA, in spite of every other consideration, clearly wants to have India bleed internally! Simultaneously it wants the country to permit freely the conversion of Indians to Christianity so that it can further weaken its fabrique. The active involvement of the Southern Baptist Church of the USA in secessionist movements in the north-eastern states, where it has a substantial presence, is at best, a badly kept secret! It is simultaneously well known in Pakistan that the path to power in Islamabad is routed through Washington! The paradoxes inherent in the US’ world view clearly need a fresh appraisal! It needs to be mentioned here that during the Kargil War of 1999, Pakistan was under the direct guidance of its Chinese friend as also Uncle Sam! It was ultimately a telephone call from President Bill Clinton which had compelled PM Nawaz Sharif to withdraw to its side of the LOC. Similarly the hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IA 814 late Dec 1999 by Pakistani operatives, resulting in the release of prominent jihadi Al Qaeda-Taliban terrorists in captivity in India, was masterminded by them and synchronised to coincide with the ‘escape’ of UTD from Tibet and his entry into India and distract from it. All this is extremely bizarre for the simplistic westerner supposedly seeking enlightenment! Karmapa khyen no!
Free availability of heroin and other hard drugs in Dharamsala and the state of Himachal Pradesh is proof enough of this malign presence, not to mention of course that Chinese agents have infiltrated Tibetan monasteries throughout the country! It can be stated with certitude that supporters of UTD are directly or indirectly under Chinese control. But then for the ordinary westerner, the Taala'i Lama continues to remain a good person, a nice, charismatic person with wonderful vibes and so on! One is left wondering as to whether such appellations are synonymous with competence. Surely erudition does not naturally imbue one with leadership qualities! And perhaps political acumen is not a necessary corollary to meditative realisation and personal evolution should these exist in any person! The lives and deeds of the Regents Radreng and Tagdhrag who governed Tibet 1934 - 1951, highlighted in The Water Birds & Other Years, an extremely dispassionate historical document, are proof enough of these assertions! Karmapa khyen no!
These are clearly some of the reasons why the XVIth Gyalwang Karmapa and currently HH Penor Rinpoche, Head of the Nyingmapa Tradition, and many similarly sensible Lineage Holders, authentic Buddhist Masters and sincere Lamas continue to veer away from political involvement, restricting themselves to accomplishing the welfare of beings through the Dharma alone, unconcerned with statecraft! HH the Sakya Tridzin Rinpoche remains politically silent as also do the Gyalwang Drugchen and Drighung Chetshang Rinpoches. Karmapa khyen no!
The unfortunate aspect of this is that due to historical and ethnic compulsions, they are unable to take a stance contrary to the confusion being perpetrated by the Taala’i Lama. The fear of being lynched by Tibetans, who are essentially violent peoples, no, not peaceful and simple as is commonly assumed and projected, for whom the Taala’i Lama is apparently their only hope of return to their land of origin, ensures their continuing silence! Karmapa khyen no!
The multi million dollar question is would a realised and evolved person actually indulge in such schismatic politics? It is left to the reader to answer this for one’s ownself! Karmapa khyen no!
Stated bluntly, the Taala’i Lama’s political mentor, and to this he admits personally, his elder brother Gyalo Thondup, certainly not amongst the most highly respected of Tibetans, is sharp and politically astute. However, he is hardly a Bodhisattva. On the contrary, an old Tibetan adage would maintain that “every enlightened master is accompanied by a similar ‘anti-Christ’!” Karmapa khyen no!

Given the current scenario, it would be far, far better, for the Taala'i Lama to make a Dickensian exit. It would be a ‘far, far better thing that he might do than he has ever done; a far, far better place that he might go to than he has ever gone,” were he to accept the meek and humble method of service manifest by Christians such as Mother Teresa or work with those afflicted from leprosy like the Polish Father Marian in Orissa, simultaneously exhorting his ardent disciples to follow his example! This lack of practical concern for the poor and downtrodden, in spite of erudite expositions of compassion, especially by his Gelugpa tradition, is the greatest weakness in institutionalised Tibetan Buddhism. Isn’t it downright stupid to talk of compassion when you can’t actually express it in daily life! Karmapa khyen no!
Stated simply should people not be given avenues for creative expression, the results are disastrous as repeatedly proved particularly throughout Tibetan history ibid The Water Bird and Other Years! And it is clear that the only way to do so is through the service of others, as openly extolled by Buddhists but rarely ever practised by them! There is no place in Buddhism for the self-aggrandisement which has become the hallmark of the Taala’i Lama! The problem is that service entails humility, a human quality better not even broached with the high and the mighty! And all this in spite of the fact that his own teachings exhort one to become as humble as the water flowing in a river! Karmapa khyen!
The religious in the Tibetan polity, are content to maintain their separation from the laity, thus ensuring the continuation of their privileges which may occasionally be construed as a genuine requirement! The laity is invariably left to fend for itself based on its local traditions and wisdom handed down from one’s elders, much like the blind leading the blind, given little or no instruction in the Dharma as it is considered not to be their focus of interest! Thus the laity continues its merry way, mouthing the Dharma, reciting ‘om mani padme hum’ interminably, little affected by its inherent content, hoping in the saving grace of the Dalai Lama as if he can negate the effects of all their negative karma for them! The Taala’i Lama too needs to be crucified to atone for the sins of his beloved Tibetan peoples! The sooner the better! Karmapa khyen no!
The Taala’i Lama would certainly show statesmanlike qualities were he to initiate such a change at the grassroots level of his faithful following. Performing Kalachakra Initiations and giving incomprehensible discourses from high podia does little to transform the Tibetan Buddhist in attendance into a better person. They merely go their way saying, “Oh, that was a wonderful initiation, full of blessings! The Dalai Lama’s discourses were great! We feel thoroughly blessed!” Apparently little of it permeates into their daily lives. Even attempts at local levels to teach the Dharma to ordinary Tibetans are rarely successful for the simple reason that they are not inclined! Tibetophiles need to be reminded of the recurring statements of enlightened Masters since Milarepa that Tibetans have become hard as ‘butter skin’! Karmapa khyen no!
Besides, such carnivals become rallying points for every aspect of human life other than Buddhism, particularly the politicising of the venue -- a great show of Tibetan ethno-nationalism. Various Chinese and other intelligence agents have been apprehended in the past by Indian authorities from such carnivals. Now the threat of communal riots instigated by Pakistan looms the larger, not to mention attempts to disrupt such carnivals by insurgents in Bihar and the Indian Buddhist populace disaffected by the Taala’i Lama’s pathetic lack of concern towards them! www.snshowholy.blogspot.com Karmapa khyen no!
The Mahabodhi Stupa for example, during such festivals, is transformed into a massive exhibition of Tibetan nationalism as happened in Jan 2001 with business of all kinds, including flesh-trade, flourishing. Hundreds of thousands of candles and lamps offered by these devotees heavily pollute the environment and blacken the Stupa as well! This money would certainly be far better spent in serving the poor and the downtrodden! Karmapa khyen no!
Buddhism, especially the Gelugpa tradition, clearly exhorts believers to treat both the Three Jewels and sentient beings at par -- actively compassionate towards the poor and needy even as they express their devotion to the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha! Modalities need to be worked out for the Buddhist clergy to be directly involved in empowering and serving humanity, helping out in areas of natural and man made calamities as exemplified by Mother Teresa! This again is anathema to the Taala’i Lama and his political establishment! He will be stooping too low to engage himself thus! After all he is the God-King of Tibet! Karmapa khyen no!
Needless to state the Taala’i Lama rakes in a lot of money as offerings both in Indian Rupees and foreign exchange, concerning which he is thoroughly unaccountable and not constrained by any law! Understandably the beneficiaries of his munificence are questionable -- power corrupts, runs the old adage, absolute power corrupts absolutely! Karmapa khyen no!

Until now the Nobel Taala’i Lama has not taken a single step for the benefit of Indian Buddhists for the upliftment of whom he will need to spend his own money. A poor Tibetan refugee such as the Taala’i Lama, dependent on international largesse, hardly possesses the means to do so! Surely the intelligent Tibetophile has seen innumerable examples of such poor refugees sporting Rolex and Cartier designer watches and gold ornaments which would put most to shame! The Taala’i Lama in actuality, is amongst the richest of people in the world; one who does not need to exert himself to make a living or receive adulation and largesse from others! Mahatma Gandhi had been called ‘the naked fakir’ by Winston Churchill, ‘to maintain whom costs a fortune!’ How would the reader care to define the Taala’i Lama? Karmapa khyen no!
Unfortunately the Taala’i Lama remains allied with staunch Hindu organisations such as the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, amongst whom he now finds succour and friendship. This is in spite of the countless instances of destruction and persecution Buddhists have suffered under orthodox Hindus during the Dharma’s two and a half millennia of existence. The Tala’i Lama, unbelievably, had gone to attend the Mahakumbha, amongst the holiest of Hindu festivals held every twelve years, in Allahabad, UP Jan 2001 at the expense of the Indian tax payer! What exactly was he doing there, none dare ask! Nor should one ask the reason as to why he doesn’t engage the Hindus in a constructive dialogue concerning Buddhism! All this inscrutable Buddha Activity! Karmapa khyen no!
The disbeliever is referred to the Shakya Newaris who live in Kathmandu, Nepal for historical evidence of these atrocities! It is now a proven fact that many Buddhist temples have been usurped by Hindus who have converted them into important pilgrim sites. These include the Tirupati Balaji Temple, Badrinath, Jagannath Puri, the purported Birthplace of Ram in Ayodhya and the Birthplace of Krishna in Mathura. In spite of claims by Hindus that Mathura is a Hindu site, excavations have merely revealed Buddhist remains, the Mathura school of art its distinctive feature. Even the precincts of the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya and its environs are claimed by Hindus, not to mention the massive Buddha statue bordering the ruins of Nalanda University! The list is endless! Almost every month new Buddhist sites are being discovered by the Archeological Survey of India, testimony to the fact that it was once the predominant religion in the sub-continent! The Taala’i Lama is content to have the Mahabodhi Stupa in Buddha Gaya and various other Buddhist monuments in the vicinity, remain under joint control of Hindus and Buddhists or of Hindus alone. Rather than make statements to the contrary, he and his representatives, notably the erudite Samdong Rinpoche, currently also the elected Prime Minister of the Govt of Tibet in exile, make erudite statements to the effect that the Hindu divinity Shiva is actually worshipped by Buddhists as well! This Director of the Central Institute for Higher Tibetan Studies, needs to be reminded that the Buddha Shakyamuni had rejected outright the testimony of the Four Vedas, the very foundation of Hindu thought. Moreover, as the Rinpoche is bound to have studied in great detail, Hindu thought has been classified under the head of ‘mu-teg-pa’ or heretical schools of which 24 traditions are counted and their perspectives studied. The status accorded to the Hindu Trinity -- Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh -- in Buddhist thought is well known to the Taala’i Lama and his Prime Minister. In spite of all this they bend over to please their Hindu patrons jeopardising the future of the Dharma in India. Karmapa khyen no!
Interestingly on the occasion of Saga Dawa, or Buddha Jayanti, May 25 this year, Samdong Rinpoche had spearheaded a multi-faith prayer ceremony for world peace under the Bodhi Tree and had spoken at length about how the arms race was threat to world peace! Perhaps he had forgotten that the cold war is actually long over and more immediate issues are of international importance!

He is advised to put his own house in order first, solve the Karmapa Imbroglio, disassociate himself with Chinese and Pakistani operatives, stop threatening the sovereignty of India, prior to mouthing such erudite phrases intended to misguide people from abroad! This would be a measure of his Master’s supposed commitment to world peace! The rest is all SHAM! And for SHAME! Karmapa khyen no!

Is the assumption valid that all that the Taala’i Lama affirms is necessarily correct? If this is so then the world should be given the new Dharamsala Creed: “I believe in the Three Jewels and their only true Son, the Taala’i Lama ....!” As also “Unser Vater, Der im Dharamsala leben, Sein Name ist heilige, usw. verbaitmnach Amen!” Karmapa khyen no!
Clearly all this is far too complex for those with a liberal upbringing particularly those who seek to transcend their own present and personal suffering. The problem is that such aspirants are easily fooled by the convoluted asian mind which they either cannot penetrate or do not wish to, content to remain gullible and fooled! Mention here must be made here of the abstract paintings of Tai Situpa available in the international art market. These exude an intensely evil energy which is utterly incomprehensible! Clearly this is yet another medium for him to increase his benign Chinese communist influence throughout the world. Karmapa khyen no!
No, it is not possible for bygones to be bygones because that is how one’s culture and history are defined and that applies to the Nobel Laureate as well! Gypsies in Europe incontrovertibly continue to live with the burden of their past as also do the natives in the Americas, e.g. The Road of Tears, Autralasia and unbelievably, India as well! Neither have memories of two world wars been eradicated from human consciousness! On the contrary they now form the corner stone for policies in the First World since the defeat of Hitler! Karmapa khyen no!
Similarly Bhutan has firmly etched in its memory the attempts of the Taala’i Lama to usurp the country in the early 70s. There even a photograph of this Nobel Peacenik is viewed with suspicion; his entry into this Buddhist kingdom is prohibited. Nepal simply refuses to have him visit! Karmapa khyen!
The scientists currently gathered in Dharamsala to measure various scientific parameters when the Taala’i Lama goes into deep meditation, as also for his protégé, Ugen Trinley Dorji, perhaps have no means of gauging the level of ethics integral to a person. And if they are so keen as they appear to measure various parameters of spiritual leaders, they should also include tests of Thaye Dorje after he concludes his retreat in France! Any thing less than this is a PR gimmick of the Taala’i Lama! One wonders if they will be able to assess the extent to which these two are authentic Lamas in that they have maintained their observances of the Three Disciplines as enunciated by the Buddha! Karmapa khyen no!
Ultimately it is this last which matters in accordance with the Dispensation of the Buddha! All the scientific gimmickry aimed to project the purported ‘holiness’ of these two persons before the world, is merely an attempt to fool a willingly gullible set of ‘groupies’ who have somehow taken centre stage and are unable to penetrate the facade of these wily Tibetans! Karmapa khyen no!
These scientists need also exert themselves to establishing the true physical/medical age of UTD. Indian doctors at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Research in Chandigarh, India have already ascertained it to be around 25 in April 2000. Characteristically these reports have been suppressed not least of all due to Uncle Sam who has a direct interest in him! The Taala’i Lama continues to maintain that UTD was born June 26, 1985! Photographs of him show that he has plenty of facial hair which he shaves. This is highly uncharacteristic of a Tibetan teenager! Karmapa khyen no!
The surprise expressed by the Taala’i Lama when he first met UTD in Dharamsala, Jan 5, 2k was certainly not that he had arrived, since he was privy to the entire operation, but that unexpectedly he is a full 10 years older than expected. Even Andrew Whitehead, the BBC World reporter had commented during two presentations that UTD looked far more mature than his age! Clearly the Chinese have sent UTD’s brother across the border while keeping the teenaged boy under their strict supervision! Karmapa khyen no!
So much for Buddhism, world peace et al! This is politics in its ugliest manifestation! Perhaps the darkest period in the history of Tibetans! Karmapa khyen no!

Westerners must necessarily feel insecure about their ownselves, their own culture, their own heritage, which they feel has let them down and which is why they must seek solace from an alien tradition overly mystified and personages supposedly inscrutable! Karmapa khyen no!
Readers might be surprised to learn that Christianity too, in spite of its turbulent history and apparently questionable dogma, still continues to preserve within its folds a spiritual core which occasionally manifests in the likes of Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa, Father Marian and various saints who have manifest since Christ! The lacuna there is that esoteric teachings of the faith are not freely available as in Buddhism currently. For the seeker, the doors remain open, of which Father Thomas Merton is an inspiring example. Karmapa khyen no!
Buddhists themselves teach that It is considered intelligent that one must understand that which one wishes to accept and / or reject, rather than assuming that one knows! Westerners are referred to works such as The Prophet of the Dead Sea Scrolls by Upton Clary Ewing and Jesus Lived in India by Holger Kersten for varying perspectives on Jesus. These are works of dedicated scholars much like the Tibetan Buddhist Masters and deserve serious consideration! Wisdom is certainly not the prerogative of the Tibetan peoples as the Taala’i Lama, Tai Situ and UTD seek to project! On the contrary she is the ‘faithless consort’ freely available to those who may seek her! Karmapa khyen no!

The least the Taala’i Lama can now do is to stop his compulsive penchant for creating mischief! Would that he would give up his pretensions of being the God-king of Tibet. He lost his kingdom decades ago! He is in actuality the embodiment of Tibetan nazism, and it is this solid attachment to apparent phenomena he needs to transcend through the perfection of magnanimity! It is only then that he can revert to being a spiritual Master with the sole aim of benefiting beings irrespective of race and creed as taught by the historical Buddha on countless occasions! Karmapa khyen no!
But then, the Great Master that he is, he would never have attended the cremation of any person close to him, experiencing the heart wrenching scene of a human form being consumed by flames. No, a highly evolved person is supposed to intuit that death is the greatest leveler. Be it a Tibetan, an Indian, or from any other nationality, every single persons ends up there -- at the cremation ground or the grave! There is naturally no need for him to experience such a heart wrenching event! All he is to do is to preach eloquently about it and expect others to do that he himself is unable to! Vicarious spirituality surely exonerates the preacher! Karmapa khyen no!
This is exemplified in the opening verses of the Gospel of St. John. The Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us. This is the Bodhisattva Ideal in that evolved persons take on human forms out of their own volition, experience the joys and sufferings of the human condition and are thus able to empathise with and give guidance to the pilgrim! Like Jesus, such people are not to isolate themselves in ivory towers, exert unbridled authority over the faithful and play politics as the institutionalised trulku has done in the Tibetan context, particularly the Taala’i Lama! Karmapa khyen no!
But then like Akong Rinpoche, the Taala’i Lama too does not have the courage to step out from his Tibetan shield to face the world as a human being in his own right, with all his strengths and failings! Had Avalokiteshewara been expounding The Heart Sutra now, he would have certainly said, “Shariputra, ethnicity is emptiness, emptiness is ethnicity; ethnicity is none other than emptiness, emptiness is none other than ethnicity .... Therefore in emptiness there is no Tibetan, no Indian, no Chinese, no German, no English person, none French, none American ....” To which the Buddha would have replied, “Well said, well said, O Son of Noble Family. Thus it is! Thus it is! The Buddhas rejoice at your exposition!” Karmapa khyen no!
Currently the Taala’i Lama is an abject failure on many fronts having become an incorrigible source of more and more suffering with each political move he makes! Notable amongst these are the fiasco concerning the recognition of the Panchen incarnation which has adversely affected his own ‘especially Gelugpa tradition’! His selection remains currently the youngest Chinese prisoner of conscience in the world. For the Tibetan he remains their only hope and that too for only one section from amongst them! This logic cannot, and this needs to be repeatedly emphasised, be extended to non-Tibetans as well! Karmapa khyen no!
Hatred runs deep within the Tibetan polity. The Gelugpas, desperate to prove that they are the sole repository of the authentic Buddhist teachings, are overtly inimical to all non-Gelugpa Tibetan Buddhist traditions. This is reciprocated variously by the others. It is this which propelled him to fix the dates for the Kalachakra Initiation Jan 01 to clash with the annual Nyingma Monlam in Bodh Gaya! To add insult to injury their PR spin doctors portrayed to a gullible media that the Nyingma Monlam was actually the Kalachakra Intitiation! Kudos to the Taala’i Lama for his lies! Karmapa khyen no!
Of what use are his erudite lectures and books with which he magnetises the world, when he is hardly able to live up to an iota of all that he is wont to preach? Karmapa khyen no!
His own ‘especially Gelugpa tradition’ has a motto -- ‘Rely not on humans but on gods!’
In the Taala’i Lama’s case, it is the exact reverse. He relies on westerners to prop him up as the New Age Messiah! Karmapa khyen no!
There is only one inference which may be drawn from the above. For the Taala’i Lama politics is merely the art of dissimulation. In this he excels, adding yet another paramita to the existing ten -- the ‘Perfection of Dissimulation’! This is the new gospel being preached abroad in the name of Buddhism! And amazingly it has found many takers! Karmapa khyen no!
Amazingly even intelligent westerners are willing to lap it all up! They are advised to go back home and do some serious dispassionate homework, study those they wish to accept as their Gurus in great detail before accepting any! It is this which is enjoined in the Buddha’s Dispensation, not blind belief which has apparently become the order of the day! Karmapa khyen no!
Clearly the Taala’i Lama needs a vision of 'an ugly old hag' to propel him towards genuine renunciation! Karmapa khyen no!

P.S. Foreigners are admonished hereby not to interfere in the national security of India through their lack of understanding of the dynamics which constitute the Taala’i Lama, Tai Situ, UTD and others!
Simply stay away from Tibetans with even the slightest political profile and their subtile conspiracies! If you consider them to be infallible gods, take them out of India and grant them domicile in your own countries! We can do very well without them! They have caused us enough trouble already!
You have no business to destroy our country! We have enough to contend with as it is, rather than have a bunch of naive, over zealous, meddlesome, politically immature, assorted, uninformed, misinformed, misguided, insensitive and occasionally silly, though apparently well-meaning, Buddhists from abroad, add to our trials and tribulations!
Just stay away! Stop funding these sinister personalities! Go back to your own country taking them with you, and do what you will there! Don’t destroy India!
You may recite the mahamantra ‘Karmapa khyen no!’ In the comfort of own home and culture and strive towards enlightenment there!
